I believe that the ELA technology standard that is going to be most difficult for me to instill into students will be to have students reading and comprehending science/technical texts in the grades 11–CCR text complexities band independently and proficiently by the end of 12th grade. The reason for this is because I feel like there are many things that interfere with a student's learning, especially during high school, and this may cause them to become delayed in their learning and to slack with their school performance. On the other hand, all of the other skills seem much simpler because they are things that do not require the student to instill something into their mentality or to require them to reach a certain level of understanding. Most of the other standards simply require students to meet objectives on assignments, etc.
The CPALMS toolkit that I plan on using in my classroom is the 1st grade English Language Development toolkit. The reason why I believe this toolkit will be most effective is because this involves helping students developing language to interact with other students. I, for example, met a lot of my present day friends in elementary school, most I have known since kindergarten. However, in kindergarten, I did not know how to communicate effectively with one another. The English Language Development toolkit for 1st graders emphasizes on learning language for social and academic purposes and I feel like this is where many of my friendships truly started. This is a tool I believe hits a deeper spot and I would best teach because of my personal history and passion for it as I would love to help students build friendships amongst one another.
The newsletter was somewhat of a difficult task for me to complete. Although I have experience on Microsoft Word, a newsletter was nothing like anything I had ever done before. It was truly tedious to have to complete an assignment on something I felt like I had no prior knowledge on. Though I now know how to create a newsletter, I felt as if I wasn't creative enough to meet the expectations I had for it and I could have made it much nicer. Ultimately, one of my biggest difficulties was formatting everything in the two columns. Check out my newsletter below!

  1. I love the toolkit idea you have! I think it is so important for students at the first grade level to be working on their communication skills extensively. These are vital years in their development when it comes to making friends and learning how to work with others. The toolkit would be very effective for this. Also I agree with your comments on the newsletter! It was definitely new territory for me as well which made it difficult but it was also a great creative outlet! It makes me very excited for my own future class and having the opportunity to do something like this.
