Although my definition of a software tool might be completely out of context, one tool I would love to implement into my classroom with my future students is Quizlet. If I do decide to become a middle or high school teacher, Quizlet would be a great website to share with them. As a student, I've found Quizlet to be very beneficial for the years ongoing. It tends to make learning easier, especially preparing for a quiz or exam. We tend to find loopholes as students and tend to end up on Quizlet anyways, sometimes finding content that may even be irrelevant to the actual learning material as it is posted by students. By posting the proper information onto Quizlet as a teacher, you are able to deliver study material effectively and organized to your students. Not to mention the fact that Quizlet offers study and quiz options to practice learning content.
Another tool I would love to use in my classroom is Starfall. Growing up in elementary school, Starfall was used very often by my teachers. Starfall offers a learning experience for ages K-3 by providing interactive audiovisuals which alters lessons for children by allowing them to create their own story line to learn how to read. Starfall was very useful as a child-- useful enough that years later, in college, I still remember the website clearly and even some of the activities I completed in it!
As far as Twitter goes, I don't believe I have used it as effectively as I have wanted to for this course. Though I have been very proficient with Twitter as far as retweeting memes goes, I don't believe I have found enough content to read on my Twitter relevant to this class. I have however posted about my experience in this course and have socialized with some of my classmates by responding to their tweets and helping them out with class material.

I also love quizlet for in a classroom. It is very user friendly, especially for younger students. It is great for reviewing for tests and quizzes and can be done with the class as a whole. I know as a student myself, I have used it for the majority of my classes. I have never heard of Starfall but it sounds like a really great tool for elementary classrooms!
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting on my blog week 5! I loved seeing your insight on my newsletter. I thought it was interesting that you mentioned online tools for younger groups of students. It's important to get them interested in technology at a young age, but there aren't that many tools available. Starfall sounds really cool. I also think it's taken some time for me to get used to Twitter in a more professional sense, but we are getting the hang of it. :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't even think about quizlet while writing my blog! It's such an useful source. I'm interested in looking into starfall as a classroom helper. I agree about being proficient in twitter in regards to the class and not finding immediate information relating to this specific class.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment on my 8th blog post! I complete agree with you, Quizlet is a godsend! I actually wrote a post about how much I love Quizlet on my blog too! It's a wonderful study tool and really does enhance the learning experience beyond the classroom!
